Planes in Lo Shu Grid

The Lo Shu Grid is read through eight straight lines rather than nine separate numbers. This page covers all eight, how line strength is measured across four tiers, and what an Arrow of Frustration is.

In short: A plane forms when three numbers align in a row, column, or diagonal of your Lo Shu Grid. When all three numbers are present in your birth date, that plane is complete and active — governing a distinct part of how you think, feel, and act.

Planes in the Lo Shu Grid

Individual numbers reveal specific traits. Planes reveal how those traits work together. A plane forms when three numbers line up across a row, column, or diagonal of your grid — and when your birth date contains all three, that plane is fully active.

There are eight planes in total: three horizontal, three vertical, and two diagonal. The diagonals are rarer and carry special names — Golden Yog and Silver Yog — since fewer birth dates complete them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens when no planes are complete in a Lo Shu Grid?

+

Having no complete planes is actually fairly common, since each plane needs all three of its specific numbers present in your birth date. It doesn’t mean a weak grid — it usually just means your individual numbers each work somewhat independently rather than reinforcing each other through a shared row, column, or diagonal. Reading your missing numbers individually becomes more important in this case.

Can a person have all 8 planes active at once?

+

Mathematically possible but extremely rare, since it would require every digit from 1 to 9 to appear in your birth date — an unusually large number of distinct digits for an 8-digit date. Most grids complete somewhere between zero and three planes, which is entirely normal.

Which plane is most important in Lo Shu Grid?

+

There isn’t a single most important plane — it depends what you’re trying to understand. The Practical Plane (8-1-6) is usually the most relevant for career and money questions specifically, while the Willpower Plane (9-5-1) matters more for resilience and long-term goal pursuit. Golden Yog (4-5-6) carries the most weight for overall life success simply because it’s the rarest.

What is the difference between a plane and a Yog?

+

A Yog specifically refers to the two diagonal planes — Golden Yog (4-5-6) and Silver Yog (2-5-8). Every Yog is technically a plane, but not every plane is a Yog; the term is reserved for the diagonals because they’re rarer and traditionally carry more weight than the six horizontal and vertical planes.

Does having a broken plane mean bad luck?

+

No. A broken plane just means one or more of its three numbers is missing from your birth date, so that particular combination of qualities doesn’t reinforce itself automatically. It’s far more common than having a complete plane, and it simply means that life area benefits from more deliberate attention rather than running on instinct.
